Following a strong showing at the conference tournament, the Su-Valley volleyball team is headed to state for the fourth straight year. Juniors Deborah Johnston and Gabby Faurot were named to the all-tournament team. Junior Ruby Matthews and Senior Sarena Drover were named to the all-tournament and all-conference teams. Additionally, Drover is currently one of the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman’s high school athletes of the week.
The Rams finished second in the conference tournament behind Cordova. Su-Valley’s only finished with a 10 and 2 conference record, with the Rams’ only losses coming at the hands of Cordova.
The state tournament starts Thursday afternoon at Dimond High School in Anchorage. Su-Valley will take on Petersburg at 2:00 p.m. The winner will face the victor of the match between Tok and Dillingham on Friday.
The Rams finished fourth at last year’s tournament, and took home the championship in 2013.
