The Matanuska Electric Association has a big job to maintain over 4,300 miles of power lines. MEA has a crew that focuses primarily on tree removal of dangerous trees that are close to the power line. The goal is to remove trees before they fall on the power line, causing unexpected power outages. MEA does not want anyone to touch a tree that is in contact a power line that may be energized and can be extremely dangerous, even life threatening.

KTNA’s Katie Writer spoke with MEA’s Dispatch Manager, Lance McKimson, about how MEA is working hard to minimize the hazards posed by dangerous trees.
