
The 2019 Mat-Su Borough School District Cross Country Running Race was a great opportunity for Talkeetna Elementary’s XC running team to race in fields up to 110 runners. The race was held on September 24th at Colony High School. Coach Tracey Bosshardt has been running with the athletes on Talkeetna trails and was very pleased with how well the Timberwolves performed at and event with 80 or more competitors at the mass start of each race.
7 girls and 3 boys raced in various distances, including a one mile, 1.5 mile and 2 mile races.
Iven Schwartz had a standout performance of 5th place in the one mile run in a field of 89 racers. Jasper Marder finished in the top third of the boys 1.5 mile race.

For the girls’ 2 Mile Run, results were as follows: Jessie Wentworth, 37th …Kiara Apple, 39th…Jayden Slicker, 51st, Lillian Stewart…57th, Kylie Bradley, 62nd and in the Girls 1.5 mile race, Milly Fish placed 34th and Clementine Froelich placed 39th with Owen Drumm placing 55th in the boys 2 Mile race.
The course was hilly and there were some bright red faces at the finish line.

The Su Valley Middle School Co-Ed Soccer team finished off their season with a Second Place finish at Middle School State Tournament.
The Lady of the Valley scored two goals to Su Valley’s one goal in the championship game in Saturday. 6th grader, Murray Froelich scored the goal assisted by Siri Wilson late in the second half. The Rams played very well to the last minute with lots of pressure on their opponents’ goal.

The Rams dominated most of their games of the tournament with scores of (6-0),(4-0),(5-0) and Coach Jamie Westnedge said that they played like champions and both he and Coach Panucci were very proud of the team.
Su Valley’s Lena Spotts was awarded Most Valuable Female athlete of the tournament, while Hunter Logan of Lady of the Valley earned Most Valuable Male athlete.
The Su Valley High School Co-Ed Soccer Team is gearing up for defending their 2018 title of Division 2 State Co-Ed Soccer Champions this upcoming weekend in Palmer.
