Su Valley competes in state volleyball tournament

The 2019 Su Valley Rams volleyball team.

The Su Valley Rams were eliminated from the state 2A volleyball tournament in three rounds over the weekend.

The two teams that defeated the Rams would go on to take first and second place in the tournament.

Su Valley started off strong on Thursday by winning three consecutive sets against Chevak.  The closest of those three sets saw the Rams coming out ahead with a score of 25 to 11.

In the second round, Su Valley lost the first set eventual state champion Craig, and then won the second.  Craig went on to win the third and fourth set, sending Su Valley to the lower bracket. They played eventual runner-up Unalaska in the third round.  The Rams struggled in the first two sets, losing them both 25 to 7.  In the third set, Su Valley found more success, but lost the set 25 to 21.

Unalaska went on to defeat King Cove and Klawock before meeting Craig in the finals. Unalaska kept the match close, winning the second and third sets, and actually had a higher total score than Craig across all sets, but ultimately took home second place when Craig won the fifth set 15 to 9.

Su Valley did not leave the tournament empty-handed, however.  The team took home the sportsmanship award.  In addition, Junior Kenna Grenier was named to the all-tournament team, and Sophomore Myka Wilson won the award for best server at the tournament.
