Cottle withdraws from Borough Mayor race

The campaign for Mat-Su Borough Mayor is down to two candidates.

Monday evening, former Wasilla Mayor Bert Cottle announced on his campaign’s Facebook Page that he is withdrawing from the race. Cottle cites unspecified medical reasons for stepping back from what had been a three-way race between himself, Palmer Mayor Edna DeVries, and former Mat-Su Borough Assembly Member Matthew Beck.

Statement posted to the campaign Facebook Page of former Wasilla Mayor Bert Cottle on September 27th, 2021.

The election that will decide the next borough mayor will be held on November 2nd.  Vern Halter, who currently holds the post, has termed out and is not eligible for re-election.

In addition to the mayor, multiple assembly seats are up for election this November, including District 7.  That district includes the Northern Susitna Valley and is currently represented by Tam Boeve.  She is being challenged by Ron Bernier in the upcoming election.
