The rebound of business in Downtown Talkeetna continued in August, according to sales tax data from the Mat-Su Borough.
August sales tax revenue, which was made public this week, outperformed the average of the two years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. This August brought in about ten percent more than the average of 2018 and 2019, which was just over $160,000. Revenue from August of last year was less than half of that average.
Each month of the summer season showed significant improvement over 2020, with June and July both coming in at about ninety percent of pre-pandemic revenue.
The Talkeetna sales tax began in 2018 as a means to fund upgrades to and maintenance of the sewer and water system.
