More than 100 COVID-19 vaccines given in the Northern Valley last Friday

Last Friday, the Alaska Division of Public Health held another vaccine clinic at Su Valley Junior-Senior High School in the Northern Susitna Valley.  According to Rene Dillow, a nurse manager for the state, more than a hundred people received COVID-19 vaccines, and nearly forty got a flu shot.  Dillow says there isn’t currently an age breakdown available, but that she believes most of the COVID shots were given to adults.

Children as young as five are now able to receive the Pfizer COVID vaccine, and Dillow says the Division of Public Health is focusing on individual appointments and smaller clinics in schools to vaccinate younger children as opposed to the larger events.

Public Health will be back in the Northern Valley on December 2nd in Willow and on the 3rd at Su Valley. There is a large vaccine clinic at the Menard Center on Wednesday.  Mat-Su Public Health can be reached at 907-352-6600.

COVID-19 testing at Denali Education Center is ongoing as well. Testing numbers there have dropped somewhat after opening to high demand.  Positivity rates vary by day.  On some recent days, no tests have come back positive, but on others, nearly forty percent of tests taken are positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. Scheduling for testing at Denali Education Center is available at Denali.org or by calling 907-733-7003.
