Despite poor weather, leading to travel challenges, the Rally at Denali high school basketball tournament was hosted last weekend at Su-Valley. One team, Cordova, cancelled due to multiple COVID cases reported on their teams. However, Su-Valley JV teams donned uniforms and played in Cordova’s absence.
Su-Valley Girls fell to Wrangell in the second round, but captured 3rd place by defeating reigning State Champions, Hooper Bay, on Saturday.
India Roderick, Bethany Kehoe, Emma Kehoe and Alana Barron were named to the All-Tournament Team. Bethany Kehoe was also chosen for the Girls All-Defensive Team.
Su-Valley Boys triumphed over Birchwood Christian and Wrangell. They placed 2nd, falling to Petersburg in the championship game.
Tristan Shelby, Bryson Jolley and Luther Stankowitz were named to the All-Tournament Team. First year player, Weston Slatter was picked for the Boys All-Defensive Team.
Both teams face off against Effie Kokrine this weekend. The games will be held at Su-Valley.
