Flood Advisory for Talkeetna River Through 5:00 am Monday

The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a flood advisory for the Talkeetna River through 5:00 am on Monday.

According to the advisory, minor flooding has begun or is expected to begin soon in areas near the river. As of 6:30 pm on Saturday, the gauge on the Talkeetna River at the railroad bridge measured about two inches short of minor flood stage, which is thirteen feet.

At thirteen feet, the National Weather Service says water can begin to flow into low-lying areas near the dike and revetment at the end of Main Street.  If the river reaches fourteen feet, water can flow onto Beaver Road and F Street in East Talkeetna.

The most recent forecast from the Alaska Pacific River Forecast Center shows the Talkeetna cresting Sunday evening.

KTNA will continue to monitor the situation through the weekend.
