With rain remaining in the forecast early this week, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Susitna Valley through Wednesday morning.
According to the flood watch notification, up to three inches of rain had fallen across the Susitna Basin as of Saturday evening. Rivers and creeks are already high, and additional rain is forecast for this week.
As of Monday morning, gages on the Talkeetna River at the railroad bridge and Susitna River at the Parks Highway showed the water at Minor Flood stage.
Moose Creek and Kroto Creek at Oilwell Road reached Moderate Flood Stage on Sunday. That prompted a flood advisory that expired Monday morning.
Around noon on Monday, the National Weather Service added a flood advisory for the Yentna, Skwentna, and some areas of the Susitna River through Wednesday evening. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is anticipated.
A flood watch means conditions are conducive to flooding. A flood advisory means at least some flooding has occurred, but it is not severe enough to issue a flood warning.
