Su Valley Voice for April 18th, 2024: Earth Day Every Day

On this episode of Su Valley Voice we’re talking trash…. and RECYCLING as we preview what’s in store at the Earth Day Celebration that takes place annually at Denali Education Center in downtown Talkeetna.

Host Trisha Costello is joined by guest co-hosts Kellie Laurson of Denali Education Center and Cici Shoenberger with Talkeetna Recycling Works.   Together they discuss activities at the Talkeetna Transfer Site and the events at the Earth Day Celebration.

Call in guests in the first half of the show:  Jeff Smith, Solid Waste Division Manager with the Mat Su Borough and the folks at Alaska Plastic Recovery.   Discussion is focused on the recycling efforts taking place at the Talkeetna Transfer site, the Borough’s new online coupon for reduced refuse disposal rates, the Borough’s new compost program and the addition of a bin to collect a variety of plastics for Alaska Plastic Recovery.

In the second half of the show the call-in guests are Lepani Nadore with Backhaul Alaska and Wendy Battino with Bear Necessities Coalition.   Both groups will be at the Earth Day Celebration. We hear how the battery and recycling collection is being handled by Backhaul Alaska.   We’ll also discover what brought Bear Necessities Coalition out of hibernation.
