Trapper Creek Continues Boundary Efforts

The Trapper Creek Community Council is continuing efforts to expand the Council boundaries to include more residents.

Council Chair Jason Kresge and Communications Director Mike Volin presented the proposed boundaries at the Council meeting last week. The Council boundaries do not affect Borough districts or Borough, State, or Federal elections. By expanding the boundaries, more full-time residents will be able to formally participate by voting and holding positions on the Council.

Volin says maps showing the proposed boundary changes will be posted at the library and the post office this week. Maps have already been posted to the Council Facebook page and website. The proposed boundary will be moved on Oilwell Road from mile 8.5 to mile 14.5 at Kroto Creek. The southern boundary will shift from Mile 107 on the Parks Highway south to the Susitna River. The northern boundary will shift from mile 132 to 136 on the Parks Highway. The eastern boundary of the Susitna River will remain the same.

The Borough will assist in mailing current and proposed Council residents, who will then be able to provide public comment. Council members must then draft a resolution and submit that to the Planning Commission for approval and recommendation to the Borough Assembly. The Assembly will vote to approve the updated boundaries. The process is expected to take several months.

Correction 05.22.24: The original article incorrectly stated that Mike Volin is Vice-chair of the Trapper Creek Community Council. He is the Communications Director of the Council.
