Montana Creek Fire 64 Percent Contained

Officials with the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection report that the Montana Creek Fire is 64 percent contained as of 9:15 am Friday morning. The burned area stands at 174 acres.

The SET status for Residents on Leroy Davie and Montana Creek Road corridors has been lifted. The Parks Highway remains open, though crews continue to move around the area from Miles 94 to 100.

Cooler temperatures and precipitation are helping to diminish fire activity. Crews continue to mop up the interior of the burn area. Though the smoke is significantly reduced, there still are pockets of vegetation burning.

One hundred four personnel are currently on the fire. Officials say they are working to remove equipment from the scene that is no longer being used. Statewide, precipitation and cooler temperatures have moderated fire activity. Some crews may be released to respond to fires in other locations.

Officials remind drivers to continue to use caution and slow down on the Parks Highway between Miles 94 and 100.
