Montana Creek Fire Remains Partially Contained

As of 9 am Tuesday, the Montana Creek Fire remains 40 percent contained, according to Kim Hemenway, the Public Information Officer for the Incident Management Team, or IMT. They are now handling the management of the Montana Creek Fire.

The fire began Saturday afternoon near Mile 95 on the Parks Highway. Three crews with a total of 96 personnel are on site. The crews continue to work to secure the perimeter by cutting fire lines. And they are mopping up where conditions allow.

Crews were able to protect one structure overnight where a spot fire ignited near the origin of the fire. Hemenway says to date, no residences have been burned, but one outbuilding was lost to the fire over the weekend.

Officials say drivers should stay alert and slow down on the Parks Highway from Miles 94 through 100. Ground crews are in the area with equipment and smoke may hinder visibility. With the holiday approaching, Hemenway reminds residents that discharging fireworks is illegal in the Mat-Su Borough.
