Borough District 4 Seat Vacant

Mat-Su Borough District 4 Assemblymember Rob Yundt abruptly resigned his position on the Assembly. Applications for the District 4 seat are open through Friday, September 27th.

Yundt resigned his position after moving outside the District 4 boundaries. He says he was unaware that there was a requirement to live within the District where he serves.

The Borough will accept applications through September 27th to fill the seat. Candidates will be reviewed at the October 1st meeting, likely during an Executive Session. Candidate interviews will be conducted at a special public meeting on October 3rd. The Assembly will vote and the candidate will be sworn in that evening.

The person appointed to the seat will serve the remainder of Yundt’s term until the next regular election in November 2025. Candidates must have lived in District 4, which is much of Wasilla, for at least one year immediately before appointment.

Two of the three Assembly seats up for election this year have two candidates. One of those seats is District 7, which covers the Upper Susitna Valley. Sheena Fort is running against incumbent Ron Bernier for District 7. This fourth seat opening could ultimately change the Assembly’s direction and focus.
