Winter Maintenance Tracker Goes Live This Week

A real-time winter maintenance dashboard showing the Mat-Su Borough’s plowing progress goes live this week.

Borough Operations and Maintenance Division Manager Chad Fry says Borough-maintained roads under the new contract system will see their maintenance noted on the map. Currently, that includes the Willow and Talkeetna road service areas. Contractors now must have GPS-enabled equipment so Borough staff can track plowing and  maintenance progress.

Not only will the website show which roads have been plowed, but it also is linked to the Borough’s Problem Reporter. That’s a way for residents to submit a variety of issues online. Fry says that the map will reset for each weather event. The map is on a small time delay for crew safety, but Fry says it’s as close to real time as possible. If a truck is out of cell range, it will record the activity once it comes back into service.

Residents can navigate the map to  see reported problems and if the road has been plowed recently in their area. The dashboard and map are expected to go live this week and can be found on the Borough website.
