Earlier this year, the Baldy Lake Airpark developer submitted a request to vacate section line easements. The Airpark is a new development near Talkeetna and has been stalled seeking several permits and now this easement vacation.
Section line easements are a function of the State of Alaska and are adjudicated through the Department of Natural Resources. Those easements allow the public to traverse private property along section lines without granting any other rights. Vacating section line easements would mean removing public access.
The proposed airstrip of the Baldy Lake Airpark development falls on the junction of four section lines. The Alaska Department of Natural Resources submitted a letter to the developer in October requesting more information about the application to vacate the section lines.
DNR Director of Communications Lorraine Henry says a revised petition would need to specify exactly which section lines they would like to be vacated.
To date, the developer has not responded.
