Susitna-Valley High School male wrestlers placed fifth out of eight teams in the Denali Conference wrestling tournament last weekend. The contest was held at Hutchinson High School in Fairbanks. Valdez High School took home the first place trophy and Delta High School placed second.
Two Su-Valley wrestlers qualified to compete in the Alaska State Wrestling Tournament, which will be held next weekend. Sawyer Love snatched second place in the 125 pound weight class to secure his berth in the tournament, and Tasi Taala placed second in the 285 pound weight class.
For the girls tournament, Delta High School placed first, with Valdez coming in a close second. No Su-Valley girls advanced to the State Tournament.
Ivan Schwartz and Violet Cole were each awarded as the most inspirational Su-Valley wrestlers for the 2024 season.
The Alaska State Wrestling Tournament will be held Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21st, at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.
