Talkeetna Man Wanted for Removing Ankle Monitor

Two Alaska State Troopers responded to Talkeetna last week for the report of an individual who removed their electronic ankle monitoring device. At the time, John Stefanski’s name could not be released because an arrest warrant had not yet been issued, according to Alaska Department of Public Safety Communications Director Austin McDaniel.

An arrest warrant was issued this week for Stefanski for escape and violating conditions of release for previous charges.

Stefanksi had the ankle monitor for charges of felony theft and felony criminal mischief with damage that occurred in 2021. Stefanski also was convicted last fall for felony assault related to hitting a roadside flagger with his vehicle in July 2018, according to information from the Alaska Department of Law.

Prior to the arrest warrant being issued, McDaniel said Stefanski is not believed to pose a danger to the community.
