Polling sites at the Borough Libraries in Talkeetna and Trapper Creek are open for early voting through November 3rd. Trapper Creek Elementary School, Talkeetna Public Library, and the Willow Community Center will be open for polling on election day, November 4th.
Upper Susitna Valley residents will have the opportunity to vote for the District 7 school board member, who will serve a three-year term ending in 2028. There are two candidates on the ballot for this race.
Residents also will have the opportunity to weigh in on a proposed seven-cent-per-gallon gas tax. The advisory vote will inform the Assembly about the support, or lack thereof, for the tax. Borough Manager Mike Brown says in a previous interview that it is one way to pay for road projects in part or in full, which could help minimize debt service.
In addition, voters will respond to a ballot question about senior and veteran property tax exemptions, which currently goes by full calendar year. This proposal would allow for a pro-rated exemption for individuals that own and occupy a property after January 1st.
Residents may vote early at the Talkeetna and Trapper Creek Libraries through November 3rd during the libraries’ normal business hours.
