All are welcome to bring freshly laundered clothing, books and usable items in great condition to swap with something new to you. Denali Education Center hosts Erica Watson, a Denali-based writer, with her presentation; Only a Visitor: Tourism and Home from Svalbard and Denali. Erica will share writing and reflections on tourism, sustainability, and belonging—drawing from twenty years of living at Denali National Park and an artist residency sailing in the High Arctic. This presentation is on Thursday, September 18th at the Susitna Hall in Talkeetna, beginning at 7pm. | 1 event, On Friday, September 19th, Denali Arts Council is presenting emerging Alaskan voices. Six talented writers will share their work, from poetry to prose. Some are current University of Alaska creative writing students, others are published authors and former students now doing interesting things with their lives. Doors open at 7pm and the reading starts at 7:30pm. | 3 events, - The Mat-Su Borough hosts the 17th Annual Emergency Preparedness Expo on Saturday, September 20, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Menard Sports Center, located at 1001 S Clapp Street, Wasilla. This free, family-friendly event is open to the public and features over 90 indoor and outdoor exhibitors, hands-on activities, and live demonstrations focused on emergency readiness. There will be breweries from across the state with an array of tasting opportunities, a large charcuterie table, and live music by Ukulele Russ. This show stars a hacky sack world champion who can beatbox, juggle, dance, sing, and perform magic. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7. Tickets available at denaliartscouncil.org.
