  • Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon

    The 36th annual Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon begins Friday May 8th, at 6 pm, and continues until 6 pm on Saturday, May 9th. Area residents and their guests are welcome to participate by identifying as many species of birds as can be found in the count circle during the 24 hour period. You can go birding by yourself or with family or friends, traveling “green” or using a vehicle. Participants gather around a fire in the evening on Saturday, at the end of Christiansen Lake Road.   • Clean Air Challenge bike ride – American Lung Association

    The American Lung Association in Alaska is hosting the 42nd annual Clean Air Challenge bike ride on Saturday, May 9th. The roundtrip ride begins and ends at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. There will be a finish party at 6:00 p.m. at the lodge. Staggered start times are determined by ride distance.

  • Willow Community Health Fair

    Alaska Health Fair and Sunshine Community Health Center host a Community Health Fair at the Willow Community Center on Sunday, May 10th from 8am until 12pm. This health fair includes blood tests, local resources, and health screenings. More information at alaskahealthfair.org.

  • Mother’s Day Concert – Denali Arts Council

    The Denali Arts Council's Music Academy presents a Mother's Day Concert on Sunday, May 10th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. The program features the Rhythm and Red Shoes Ensemble, Desperate Measures and the Community Choir, performing a mix of classical and pop pieces. Doors open at 3:30pm and the concert starts at 4pm.     Denali Arts Council presents a showcase of the after-school program, Su Valley Band Lab, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday, May 15th . Blackwater Railroad Company hosted this year's Band Lab. The community is invited to enjoy the presentation of the student's newly acquired skills and stay after for a Blackwater Railroad Concert.   • Car Wash – Su-Valley High School Fundraiser

    There will be a car wash at Su-Valley High School this Saturday, May 16th, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. All dirty cars and trucks are welcome. Proceeds from the car wash will go towards transporting Su-Valley athletes to sporting events.

  • Commencement of the Susitna Valley High School Class of 2026

    All are welcome to attend the commencement of the Susitna Valley High School Class of 2026 on Tuesday, May 19th. The commencement will be held in the gym at the high school. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the ceremony begins at 7:00. Refreshments will be served by the Talkeetna Bachelors Society.

    The Denali Arts Council and the Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce host Live at Five, an annual Summer Concert series beginning this Friday, May 22nd. The weekly concerts are family-friendly and are every Friday from 5-7 pm at the Talkeetna Village Park. The concerts feature bands from Alaska and the lower 48.     Denali Arts Council’s annual Talkeetna Art Festival is this Saturday & Sunday, May 23rd and 24th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Each day starting at noon there will be live music on two stages, aerial performances, and art vendors with demos and workshops. This is an indoor/outdoor family friendly event.   • Memorial Day Service honoring Veterans

    The Myron F (Ace) Ebling Memorial VFW Post and Auxiliary # 3836 is hosting a Memorial Day Service honoring Veterans who served in US armed forces. The service is on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th at 11:00am at the Talkeetna Cemetery. A pot-luck will follow at the VFW Post on Veteran’s Way immediately after the service. All are welcome.

  • Summer Reading Program – Talkeetna Public Library

    Registration opens for the Summer Reading Program on Tuesday, May 26th at Talkeetna Public Library. Bags with supplies and logs will be handed out.  The first weekly program is on Thursday, May 28th at 11:00am for all ages. Please note that this is earlier than the usual Storytime slot.
