  • Poker Ski – Denali Nordic Ski Club

    The Denali Nordic Ski Club hosts the annual Poker Ski, a 7.5ish mile ski from the Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe to Denali BrewPub, downtown.  This ski begins at 12pm from the Flying Squirrel and is fun for all ages.

    The VFW in Talkeetna is hosting a Super Bowl party this Sunday, February 8th. Doors open at 1pm, kick off is at 2:30pm. There will be wings and door prizes; attendees may bring something to add to the Snack Stadium.

  • Complexities of Love Rehearsals – Denali Arts Council

    The variety show, Complexities of Love, is February 13th and 14th and Denali Arts Council is looking for performers. If you have a talent you’d like to share—dance, music, singing, comedy, poetry, puppetry, or anything else—they’d love to hear from you. The final rehearsal and audition is on Sunday, February 8th, from 3 to 5pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. You must audition for Jenny in order to be included in the show.     Talkeetna Elementary PTA hosts Pick-Up Basketball for teens and adults, 6th grade and up, at Talkeetna Elementary School's gym on Sundays from 6-8 pm.     The Talkeetna Public Library hosts the The Sizzle & Stir Club beginning today (Monday, January 12th). This 7-week long cooking program is open to 4th and 5th graders and homeschool students are welcome. Transportation from Talkeetna Elementary School to the library will be provided by Sunshine Transit.     Talkeetna Public Library's Reading Mentors program is on Tuesdays at 3:15pm. This program is for 1st through 3rd graders and is designed to help new readers get experience and confidence in reading out loud.     Talkeetna Library’s Breakfast Book Club meets at 9:30am by the fireplace on Wednesday, February 11th. The selection for this month, in honor of Black History Month, is What the Fireflies Knew by Kai Harris. The book club meets in person and on Zoom. Breakfast snacks and beverages will be served.     Volunteers with the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program will be available to help community members with preparing and filing income taxes. Preparation will happen on Wednesdays, beginning February 4th, alternating each week between the Houston City Hall and the Upper Susitna Community & Senior Center.

    It's Fiber February at Denali Arts Council and organizers are looking for someone who would like to teach a needle felting workshop. Workshops will be on February 15th and 22nd.     Denali Education Center hosts Career Soup every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30pm through April 2nd. Career Soup is a weekly watch party of Discover What You Were Born To Do, a 12-week course written by local executive career mentor, Shannon Post. Along with the watch party, there is a potluck and conversation. This course is tailored to those who may engage better in a group setting or need support figuring out the next step.
