  • Plants for Salmon – Susitna River Coalition

    The Susitna River Coalition and partners host the fifth annual Plants for Salmon on Saturday, June 6th from 10 am to 1 pm at Caswell Lake. Volunteers will help plant native trees and shrubs to support salmon habitat and streambank restoration efforts. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and sturdy shoes.     The Upper Susitna Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to help the setup of a new hydroponic garden at their new location at 38867 South Commercial Drive adjacent to NAPA on the Talkeetna Spur Rd.  The setup is happening Saturday, June 6th from 10am to 2pm.     Valley Recycling’s 9th annual, Recycle Revival Music Fest is on Sunday, June 7th starting at 1pm. Recycle Revival is a family-friendly event at Skeetawk in Hatcher Pass, . Students are welcome to come and read, work on homework or a craft, and spend time with friends from 3:15 until 5pm every Tuesday.     The Talkeetna Public Library hosts the Summer Reading Program weekly on Thursdays at 11am.  Summer Reading Program this week is all about hiking. The Literary Trail hikers meet at the Talkeetna Library trailhead behind the building at 11am. The older group can walk a portion of the Talkeetna Lakes Trail. These hikers meet at the parking lot in Talkeetna Lakes Park which is off of Comsat Road at 11am. Sunshine Transit will be providing 14 passengers transportation to the Lakes Park trailhead, leaving at 11am promptly. Hikers need to be picked up at 11:50am at the park parking lot by parents or guardians. Bug spray is highly recommended. At noon, all ages are welcome to have lunch together- on the lawn. Weekly backpacks with breakfasts, lunches, and snacks will be available for pick up for anyone aged 18 and under. For more information, you may call the Talkeetna Library at 907-861-7645.

    The Denali Arts Council and the Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce host Live at Five, an annual Summer Concert series beginning this Friday, May 17th. The weekly concerts are family-friendly and are every Friday from 5-7 pm at the Talkeetna Village Park. The concerts feature bands from Alaska and the lower 48.   • Mount Huntington Climbs Presentation – Denali Rescue Volunteers

    Denali Rescue Volunteers present their fundraising event a Mount Huntington Climbs Presentation at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday, June 12th at 7pm. 50 years ago, Roger Robinson and team made the second ascent of Mt. Huntington’s NW Ridge. Cindy Jones, the first woman to summit, will present their 1976 climb alongside a short film of the 1964 first ascent. The program also features Brian McCullough and Lance Leslie’s 1981 alpine-style ascent and first traverse of the mountain.

  • Cow Town, a Summer Stock Performance – Denali Arts Council

    Denali Arts Council presents Cow Town, this year's Summer Stock Youth Musical Theater Camp performance. In Cow Town, everything always goes according to plan—until the residents begin to realize that a life without surprises may not be all it's cracked up to be. Featuring local youth performers singing and dancing to popular songs, this family-friendly production offers an entertaining look at what can happen when the unexpected arrives. There will be two showings on Saturday, June 13th. A matinee at 2:00 pm, with doors opening at 1:30 pm. And an evening performance at 7:00 pm with doors opening at 6:30 pm.
