  • Seeking Volunteers & Ideas for Discovery Days at Talkeetna Elementary

    Talkeetna Elementary School is hosting Discovery Days on Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 20th, from 9:00 to 11:15 AM, and they are looking for community volunteers. Discovery Days give students a chance to explore hands-on activities—from art and music to outdoor skills, STEM, and local business experiences.   • Commencement of the Susitna Valley High School Class of 2026

    All are welcome to attend the commencement of the Susitna Valley High School Class of 2026 on Tuesday, May 19th. The commencement will be held in the gym at the high school. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the ceremony begins at 7:00. Refreshments will be served by the Talkeetna Bachelors Society.

    Glenn Massay Theater

    The SpongeBob Musical will be showing at Glenn Massay Theater on the campus of Mat-Su College from May 21st through June 6th.     Denali Arts Council’s annual Talkeetna Art Festival is this Saturday & Sunday, May 23rd and 24th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Each day starting at noon there will be live music on two stages, aerial performances, and art vendors with demos and workshops. This is an indoor/outdoor family friendly event.     MatSu Borough Libraries will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th including Talkeetna, Trapper Creek, Willow, and Big Lake.

  • Memorial Day Service honoring Veterans

    The Myron F (Ace) Ebling Memorial VFW Post and Auxiliary # 3836 is hosting a Memorial Day Service honoring Veterans who served in US armed forces. The service is on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th at 11:00am at the Talkeetna Cemetery. A pot-luck will follow at the VFW Post on Veteran’s Way immediately after the service. All are welcome.

  • Summer Reading Program – Talkeetna Public Library

    The Talkeetna Public Library hosts the Summer Reading Program weekly on Thursdays at 11am.  At noon, all ages are welcome to have lunch together- on the lawn. Weekly backpacks with breakfasts, lunches, and snacks will be available for pick up for anyone aged 18 and under. If you are unable to pick up your lunch on Thursday between noon and 1, please let the library know and they can hold them for you.   • Kids Softball Game – Upper Susitna Softball Association

    The Upper Susitna Softball Association is hosting a softball game and skills competition this Friday, May 29th starting a 3:30pm at the ball field in Talkeetna. The fun will conclude before Live at 5. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.

  • Emergency Preparedness Fair – CERT

    The Willow, Talkeetna and Trapper Creek CERT host the 5th Biennial Su Valley Emergency Preparedness Fair at the Willow Community Center from 11am until 2pm on Saturday, May 30th, with education about preparedness for earthquakes, wildfires, floods, CPR, first aid, and backcountry safety. There will be indoor and outdoor exhibits with family activities for all ages, including live demonstrations, an earthquake escape room, door prizes and vendors.   • Volunteer Trail Work Day

    There will be a volunteer work day on the Talkeetna Ridge Trail on Saturday, May 30 from 1-5pm. Volunteers will meet at the end of Comsat Road at 1pm. Closed-toed shoes and leather gloves are advised. Hand saws and loppers are needed if you have them. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

  • K2 Aviation Community Celebration

    K2 Aviation celebrates 30 years with a community celebration on Saturday, May 30th. Free local flights start at 5:30pm and a BBQ starts at 6pm. The Denali Cooks will be playing. There will be a photo both to capture you 90s themed attire.

  • Plants for Salmon – Susitna River Coalition

    The Susitna River Coalition and partners host the fifth annual Plants for Salmon on Saturday, June 6th from 10 am to 1 pm at Caswell Lake. Volunteers will help plant native trees and shrubs to support salmon habitat and streambank restoration efforts. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and sturdy shoes.
