    Dudes and Divas, Copa Goes Country – Denali Arts Council

    The Denali Arts Council's Dudes and Divas present the musical experience Copa Denali, Friday and Saturday, May 1st and 2nd at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Watch local performers singing classic country favorites. Audience members are encouraged to dress for the theme. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7pm. The News Producer writes local stories and oversees the work of staff and volunteer reporters.   • Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon

    The 36th annual Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon begins Friday May 8th, at 6 pm, and continues until 6 pm on Saturday, May 9th. Area residents and their guests are welcome to participate by identifying as many species of birds as can be found in the count circle during the 24 hour period. You can go birding by yourself or with family or friends, traveling “green” or using a vehicle. Participants gather around a fire in the evening on Saturday, at the end of Christiansen Lake Road.   • Clean Air Challenge bike ride – American Lung Association

    The American Lung Association in Alaska is hosting the 42nd annual Clean Air Challenge bike ride on Saturday, May 9th. The roundtrip ride begins and ends at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. There will be a finish party at 6:00 p.m. at the lodge. Staggered start times are determined by ride distance.

    The Denali Arts Council's Music Academy presents a Mother's Day Concert on Sunday, May 10th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. The program features the Rhythm and Red Shoes Ensemble, Desperate Measures and the Community Choir, performing a mix of classical and pop pieces. Doors open at 3:30pm and the concert starts at 4pm.   • Radio Journalism Afterschool Club

    KTNA and Su Valley High School are collaborating to start a Radio Journalism Afterschool Club for the remainder of the school year. This Club is open to all Su Valley students, from middle to high school level. The Club will meet every Wednesday from 3:15-4:15pm at Su Valley High School beginning March 4th.     Alaska band, Blackwater Railroad Company hosted the Denali Arts Council's after school music program Su Valley Band Lab. The students are presenting a showcase of their newly acquired skills at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday, May 15th. Doors at 6:30pm, showcase at 7pm.     The SpongeBob Musical will be showing at Glenn Massay Theater on the campus of Mat-Su College from May 21st through June 6th.     Talkeetna Elementary School is hosting Discovery Days on Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 20th, from 9:00 to 11:15 AM, and they are looking for community volunteers. Discovery Days give students a chance to explore hands-on activities—from art and music to outdoor skills, STEM, and local business experiences.
