The Friends of the Talkeetna Library are hosting two more computer classes this spring. On Friday, April 24th there is a class covering A.I. Basics. And on Friday, May 8th, there is a class on Scam Busters. Each computer class is from 1 to 3pm at the Talkeetna Public Library. The DEA National Drug Take-Back Day is on Saturday, April 25th. There are two drop off locations available in the Susitna Valley from 10am to 2pm - at the Wasilla and Palmer Fred Meyers. All are welcome to drop off unused or expired medications in original packaging or a generic bag, without your personal information. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain tightly sealed in the original container. Syringes and medical waste cannot be accepted. Turning in unused medications reduces prescription drug abuse and accidental poisoning, and protects local waterways and the environment. The Talkeetna Library continues their celebration of National Library Week with a variety of activities through Saturday. Everyone is invited to “Find Your Joy" and join in the activities. Upper Susitna Soil and Water Conservation District is having a meeting on Saturday, April 25th from 2 to 5 pm at the Upper Susitna Community and Senior Center. The district is being revived to resume its role in the community with initiatives in salmon and wildlife habitat stewardship, trails, AK agriculture and local food production, invasive species and providing public information. The 36th annual Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon starts Friday May 1st, at 6 pm, and continue until 6 pm on Saturday, May 2nd. Area residents and their guests are welcome to participate by identifying as many species of birds as can be found in the count circle during the 24 hour period. You can go birding by yourself or with family or friends, traveling “green” or using a vehicle. Participants gather around a fire in the evening on Saturday, location to be announced.
