Alaska band, Blackwater Railroad Company hosted the Denali Arts Council's after school music program Su Valley Band Lab. The students are presenting a showcase of their newly acquired skills at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday, May 15th. Doors at 6:30pm, showcase at 7pm. Talkeetna Elementary School is hosting Discovery Days on Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 20th, from 9:00 to 11:15 AM, and they are looking for community volunteers. Discovery Days give students a chance to explore hands-on activities—from art and music to outdoor skills, STEM, and local business experiences. The Willow, Talkeetna and Trapper Creek CERT host the 5th Biennial Su Valley Emergency Preparedness Fair at the Willow Community Center from 11am until 2pm on Saturday, May 30th, with education about preparedness for earthquakes, wildfires, floods, CPR, first aid, and backcountry safety. There will be indoor and outdoor exhibits with family activities for all ages, including live demonstrations, an earthquake escape room, door prizes and vendors. The Talkeetna Historical Society is seeking artists to decorate wooden salmon cutouts for their upcoming Salmon Run Art Auction fundraiser. The completed artwork is due by June 15th.
