  • Strong Women Exercise Group – Talkeetna Public Library

    Talkeetna Public Library Talkeetna

    Strong Women exercise group meet at 10 am at the Talkeetna Public Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A Zoom option is available. This program is aimed at improving strength, balance and flexibility for women over 40 years old. Newcomers are always welcome, weights and instructions are provided. Talkeetna Library is open 11am to 6pm, but the door is opened early for Strong Women.

  • Mat-Su Health Foundation Focus Group

    The Mat-Su Health Foundation is hosting a discussion group with a focus on community health needs at the Talkeetna Public Library on Tuesday, April 29th from 11:30am until 12:30pm. Discussions will include what opportunities support health and wellbeing, and what services and healthcare access are needed in your community. Pre-registration is not required, but is appreciated.   • Student Scholarship Opportunity – Trapper Creek Community Services Association

    Trapper Creek Community Services Association has a scholarship opportunity for seniors currently enrolled at Susitna Valley High School, or homeschooled and permanently residing in the TCCSA boundaries, who will be attending a post-secondary, technical, or vocational school next year.     Talkeetna Public Library hosts Storytime every Thursday at 11:15am. The theme this week is May Day and there will be stories, snacks and a craft. All ages are welcome. Grab and Go craft kits will be available after 1pm in the foyer for those unable to attend.

  • Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon

    The 35th annual Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon begins on Friday, May 2nd, at 6 pm and continues until 6 pm on Saturday, May 3rd. Area residents and their guests are welcome to participate by identifying as many species of birds as can be found in the count circle during the 24 hour period. You can go birding by yourself or with family or friends, traveling “green” or using a vehicle. Participants gather around a fire in the evening on Saturday. The gathering will be on the gravel bar near the corner of Third and B Street, past the Talkeetna Inn.  If you have questions, leave a message for Jeff or Deb at 907 733-2066.

    Willow CERT and Willow Caswell Fire Department host Wildland Preparedness Public Education Day on Saturday, May 3rd at the Willow Fire Station from 11am until 5pm. There will be a car wash, fire safe presentations, and BBQ food. More information at the Willow CERT Facebook Page.

    Willow Community Clean-up

    Willow Area Community Organization hosts the annual Willow Community Clean-up from 12 to 5pm on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th. Yellow trash bags may be picked up from Newman's Gas Station, Roni's Deli, and the Willow Community Center Lobby. A dumpster is available in the Community Center parking for collected trash from MatSu Borough Roadways, Right of Ways and Public Lands. More information at waco-ak.org.

  • Talkeetna Elementary School seeking volunteers – Discovery Day Activities

    Talkeetna Elementary School is seeking volunteers for their upcoming Discovery Day activities for students on May 19th, 20th, and 21st. Each activity will run for about two hours and serve a small group of students. They are looking for volunteers to lead or assist with activities like sewing, geocaching, tie-dyeing, and bead making. If you have a different hobby, skill, or passion you’d like to share, they are open to more ideas. Interested volunteers may contact Charity Moore at charity.moore@matsuk12.us.

    Talkeetna Elementary School hosts the Annual Kindergarten Meet and Greet for all prospective students and their parents on Wednesday, May 7th from 10:15 until 11:00am, in the Kindergarten Classroom #135. The Meet and Greet is for students entering Kindergarten for the 2025/2026 school year. Students must be turning 5 years old on or before September 1st, 2025.   • Pressure Canner Gauge Testing

    The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is offering Pressure Canner Gauge Testing today (Thursday, May 8th). They will be at the Talkeetna Public Library from 1 to 4pm. All are welcome to bring a pressure canner dial gauge in for a test to make sure it is accurate and functioning properly. New or unused gauges should be tested before first use.     Sunshine Community Health Center hosts an Addiction Recovery Group at the Talkeetna Clinic from 1 to 2 PM every second and fourth Thursday of the month, the next one being on May 8th. This program is open to adults seeking support in their recovery journey, it provides education, peer support, and therapeutic tools for individuals navigating addiction.
