  • Teen Book to Movie – Talkeetna Library

    Talkeetna Public Library Talkeetna

    Talkeetna Library hosts their Teen Book to Movie program on Saturday, March 28th from 6 to 8pm. The movie this month is Stardust, based on the book by Neil Gaiman. Teens aged 13 to 18 are invited to discuss the book, enjoy the movie and share some pizza. This is the last one for the season.

    Denali Arts Council's after school theater program, Made for the Stage, presents Dead Inside: A Zombie Guide to Using Your Brains, featuring three original plays – Your Own Drum, Not That Kind Of Scared, and Zombie/Normie. Performances are at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, March 27th and 28th and at 2pm on Sunday, March 29th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar.     Denali Education Center hosts Career Soup every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30pm through April 2nd. Career Soup is a weekly watch party of Discover What You Were Born To Do, a 12-week course written by local executive career mentor, Shannon Post. Along with the watch party, there is a potluck and conversation. This course is tailored to those who may engage better in a group setting or need support figuring out the next step.     Denali Arts Council hosts the Alaska B4uDie Comedy Festival on Thursday and Friday, April 2nd and 3rd at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Thursday's show is an array of national comedians spanning the country, and the B4uDie Fest Alumni, Hayden Kristal. Friday will showcase a mix of national comedians, and some talented Alaskan comedians. Doors for both nights open at 6:30pm and the jokes start at 7pm. The Egg Hunts are scheduled by ages; children 4 and under from 11-11:30am, ages 5 to 8 from 11:45am to 12:15pm, ages 9-12 from 12:30-1pm, and ages 13+ from 1:15 to 1:45pm.     Alaska Commission on Aging is hosting a public webinar with Social Security Administration Regional Public Affairs Specialist, Nathan Cole, on Social Security and Medicare at the Talkeetna Public Library on Tuesday, April 7th, beginning at 12pm. Following the webinar, Sean McPhilamy, a volunteer with the State of Alaska’s Medicare Information Office, will provide an overview on Medicare. After the general discussion, he will be available for one-on-one conversations as needed, until 3pm. If you have questions you need answered, you are welcome to email them ahead of time to doh.acoa.info@alaska.gov.   • Seasonal position at the Talkeetna ranger station

    The Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger station is hiring a seasonal Recreation Fee Technician. This front desk position assists in climbing registration, issuing park passes and answering visitor questions through mid-September.     Talkeetna Library hosts the last Tween Page to Screen program for the season on Saturday, April 11th from 5-7pm. The book Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase by Carolyn Keene will be discussed and then the movie will be compared to the book. Tweens ages 9-12 are welcome.
