  • Scholarship opportunity – Sunshine Community Health Center

    Sunshine Community Health Center (SCHC) Student Scholarship Program supports high school seniors pursuing degrees or certificates in health care, behavioral health, and social services by awarding scholarships of up to $2,500. These scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated leadership, community involvement, and a dedication to wellness, helping to build a stronger health workforce in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and beyond.

  • Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon

    The 36th annual Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon starts Friday May 1st, at 6 pm, and continue until 6 pm on Saturday, May 2nd. Area residents and their guests are welcome to participate by identifying as many species of birds as can be found in the count circle during the 24 hour period. You can go birding by yourself or with family or friends, traveling “green” or using a vehicle. Participants gather around a fire in the evening on Saturday, location to be announced.     The Denali Arts Council's Music Academy presents a Mother's Day Concert on Sunday, May 10th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. The program features the Rhythm and Red Shoes Ensemble, Desperate Measures and the Community Choir, performing a mix of classical and pop pieces. Doors open at 3:30pm and the concert starts at 4pm.     Alaska band, Blackwater Railroad Company hosted the Denali Arts Council's after school music program Su Valley Band Lab. The students are presenting a showcase of their newly acquired skills at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday, May 15th. Doors at 6:30pm, showcase at 7pm.   • Seeking Volunteers & Ideas for Discovery Days at Talkeetna Elementary

    Talkeetna Elementary School is hosting Discovery Days on Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 20th, from 9:00 to 11:15 AM, and they are looking for community volunteers. Discovery Days give students a chance to explore hands-on activities—from art and music to outdoor skills, STEM, and local business experiences.   • Emergency Preparedness Fair – CERT

    The Willow, Talkeetna and Trapper Creek CERT host the 5th Biennial Su Valley Emergency Preparedness Fair at the Willow Community Center from 11am until 2pm on Saturday, May 30th, with education about preparedness for earthquakes, wildfires, floods, CPR, first aid, and backcountry safety. There will be indoor and outdoor exhibits with family activities for all ages, including live demonstrations, an earthquake escape room, door prizes and vendors.
