    Denali Education Center and Jessica Stevens Community Foundation host their annual Earth Day Celebration and Nonprofit Fair on Saturday, April 18th from 11am until 3pm at Denali Education Center's Susitna Hall in Talkeetna. Featuring presentations on recycling and food waste, kids' activities and projects, and food.   • DEA National Drug Take-Back Day – Matanuska-Susitna Borough

    The DEA National Drug Take-Back Day is on Saturday, April 25th. There are two drop off locations available in the Susitna Valley from 10am to 2pm - at the Wasilla and Palmer Fred Meyers. All are welcome to drop off unused or expired medications in original packaging or a generic bag, without your personal information. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain tightly sealed in the original container. Syringes and medical waste cannot be accepted. Turning in unused medications reduces prescription drug abuse and accidental poisoning, and protects local waterways and the environment.     Upper Susitna Soil and Water Conservation District is having a meeting on Saturday, April 25th from 2 to 5 pm at the Upper Susitna Community and Senior Center. The district is being revived to resume its role in the community with initiatives in salmon and wildlife habitat stewardship, trails, AK agriculture and local food production, invasive species and providing public information.     Sunshine Community Health Center (SCHC) Student Scholarship Program supports high school seniors pursuing degrees or certificates in health care, behavioral health, and social services by awarding scholarships of up to $2,500. These scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated leadership, community involvement, and a dedication to wellness, helping to build a stronger health workforce in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and beyond.

  • Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon

    The 36th annual Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon starts Friday May 1st, at 6 pm, and continue until 6 pm on Saturday, May 2nd. Area residents and their guests are welcome to participate by identifying as many species of birds as can be found in the count circle during the 24 hour period. You can go birding by yourself or with family or friends, traveling “green” or using a vehicle. Participants gather around a fire in the evening on Saturday, location to be announced.
