  • Seeking Volunteers & Ideas for Discovery Days at Talkeetna Elementary

    Talkeetna Elementary School is hosting Discovery Days on Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 20th, from 9:00 to 11:15 AM, and they are looking for community volunteers. Discovery Days give students a chance to explore hands-on activities—from art and music to outdoor skills, STEM, and local business experiences. If you have a hobby, skill, or passion you’d like to share, please email teachers Suzi or Kelsey at susan.reichert@matsuk12.us and kelsey.wakefield@matsuk12.us.

  • Commencement of the Susitna Valley High School Class of 2026

    All are welcome to attend the commencement of the Susitna Valley High School Class of 2026 on Tuesday, May 19th. The commencement will be held in the gym at the high school. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the ceremony begins at 7:00. Refreshments will be served by the Talkeetna Bachelors Society.

  • SpongeBob Musical

    Glenn Massay Theater

    The SpongeBob Musical will be showing at Glenn Massay Theater on the campus of Mat-Su College from May 21st through June 6th. This production brings SpongeBob and the residents of Bikini Bottom to the stage in a live musical performance for audiences of all ages. Tickets are available at https://glennmassaytheater.com/.

    Thursday, May 21st the Talkeetna Public Library is hosting a Tea Party from noon to 4pm. All are welcome to enjoy tea and cookies while visiting with old and new friends and touring the library.

  • Live at Five

    The Denali Arts Council and the Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce host Live at Five, an annual Summer Concert series beginning this Friday, May 17th. The weekly concerts are family-friendly and are every Friday from 5-7 pm at the Talkeetna Village Park. The concerts feature bands from Alaska and the lower 48.     Denali Arts Council’s annual Talkeetna Art Festival is this Saturday & Sunday, May 23rd and 24th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Each day starting at noon there will be live music on two stages, aerial performances, and art vendors with demos and workshops. This is an indoor/outdoor family friendly event.     MatSu Borough Libraries will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th including Talkeetna, Trapper Creek, Willow, and Big Lake.

  • Memorial Day Service honoring Veterans

    The Myron F (Ace) Ebling Memorial VFW Post and Auxiliary # 3836 is hosting a Memorial Day Service honoring Veterans who served in US armed forces. The service is on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th at 11:00am at the Talkeetna Cemetery. A pot-luck will follow at the VFW Post on Veteran’s Way immediately after the service. All are welcome.

  • Emergency Preparedness Fair – CERT

    Willow Community Center

    The Willow, Talkeetna and Trapper Creek CERT host the 5th Biennial Su Valley Emergency Preparedness Fair at the Willow Community Center from 11am until 2pm on Saturday, May 30th, with education about preparedness for earthquakes, wildfires, floods, CPR, first aid, and backcountry safety. There will be indoor and outdoor exhibits with family activities for all ages, including live demonstrations, an earthquake escape room, door prizes and vendors.   • Recycle Revival Music Fest – Valley Recycling

    Valley Recycling’s 9th annual, Recycle Revival Music Fest is on Sunday, June 7th starting at 1pm. Recycle Revival is a family-friendly event at Skeetawk in Hatcher Pass, .   • Talkeetna Historical Society seeking artists

    Talkeetna Museum

    The Talkeetna Historical Society is seeking artists to decorate wooden salmon cutouts for their upcoming Salmon Run Art Auction fundraiser. The completed artwork is due by June 15th. Those who are interested may stop by the museum between 11am and 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays or call Autumn at (907)304-0321 to coordinate a pickup time.
