  • Ice Festival Kick Off & Snow Ball Dance – Denali Arts Council

    Denali Arts Council hosts the Kick off party for the Talkeetna Ice Festival on Saturday, January 31st in the Talkeetna Village Park from 1pm to 3pm. All are welcome to cheer on the Ice carvers, and warm up with the Talkeetna Elementary PTA soup sale. Afterwards is a winter formal dance, the Snow Ball, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, beginning at 7pm. There will be a costume contest, a hot cocoa bar, music and dancing.   • 3rd Annual Rich Crain Classic – Multi Users of Talkeetna Trails

    MUTT (Multi Users of Talkeetna Trails) is hosting the 3rd Annual Rich Crain Classic on January 31st at the Comsat trailhead of Talkeetna Lakes Park, beginning at 11am. Participants can choose to skijor, bikejor, ski, mush, kick sled or run and may use 1 human, 1 dog or 2 dog power to follow a 5 or 15 km marked trail. Learn more and sign-up at talkeetnamutt.org.

  • Full Moon Ski – Denali Nordic Ski Club

    The Denali Nordic Ski Club is hosting a full moon ski on Sunday, February 1st. All are invited to come enjoy the new snow, the full moon, some hot chocolate, possibly some hot dogs. The ski is from 6:00-8:00pm. The ski is from 6:00-8:00pm at the Comstat Trailhead. Choose your trail.

    Susitna Valley Jr/Sr High had a last minute addition to their home basketball schedule and will be hosting Tikigaq High School for the first time today, February 3rd. Varsity Girls tip off at 3:30 pm and boys at 5 pm. Games will be streamed on NFHS.

    Hockey Rink at Talkeetna Elementary

    Due to unusually warm temperatures, the ice at the Jack MacDonald ice rink at Talkeetna Elementary School is closed. Please stay off the ice until temperatures return to below freezing and the ice is solid. Walking and/or skating on unfrozen or partially frozen ice can destroy the base ice.

  • Talkeetna Ice Festival – Friday, February 6th

    Sheldon Community Arts Hangar

    The Denali Arts Council hosts several events on Friday as part of their annual Talkeetna Ice Festival.  The Talkeetna Art Walk includes the Fiber Art exhibit at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar as well as featured artists at businesses in Talkeetna. Between 3 and 6pm, pick up an art passport and map at the Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe or at the Hangar and get it stamped on your art walk. From 6 to 7pm, there will be fire spinners outside the Hangar. The final event is a candlelight concert in the hangar with award-winning violinist Tim Kliphuis and jazz guitarist Jimmy Grant, performing Django Duets.
