The Bear Necessities Coalition hosts a bear themed art opening at Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe on Saturday, June 7th from 3 to 5pm. The art will remain on the walls for the month of June. Bear art submissions are currently being accepted, if you would like to submit some art you may email Wendy at wjb@mtaonline.net. Proceeds support the Bear Necessities Coalition. There is a fundraising event for Denali Rescue Volunteers at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Saturday, June 7th at 7pm. Roger Robinson presents Denali South Buttress Climbs, as a tribute to Denali’s volunteer rescue legacy. Talkeetna’s Roger Robinson will recount his 1975 climb of Denali’s remote South Buttress—a journey that launched his 45-year career in the Alaska Range. The talk includes rare photos and audio from the original 1954 ascent and rescue and Denali’s first helicopter evacuation. There will be door prizes and donations are welcome at the door. |

Storytime at the Talkeetna Public Library for ages 0 to 7 this week starts at 11am. The theme is Stories and Nature, and the kids will be walking the Literary Trail. At noon, Lunch on the Lawn for ages 0 to 18 is provided by the Upper Susitna Food Pantry. Weekly food bags will be available as well. Summer Reading Program begins promptly at 1pm. Sunshine Community Health Center hosts an Addiction Recovery Group at the Talkeetna Clinic from 1 to 2 PM every second and fourth Thursday of the month. The next meeting is June 12th. This program is open to adults seeking support in their recovery journey, it provides education, peer support, and therapeutic tools for individuals navigating addiction. All are invited to plant native vegetation to restore salmon habitat on Saturday, June 14, from 10am to 2pm at the Yoder Road bridge on Montana Creek. KTNA hosts our annual Volunteer Picnic/BBQ on Wednesday, July 2nd from 5 until 8pm. We will have hamburgers & hot dogs, veggie shish-kabobs, homemade side dishes, drinks and desserts. Denali Arts Council is offering a two-day improvisational "Live Art" painting workshop with Denise Iacovone (“E-ya-ka-vone-ay”). The “Making the Audible Visible” Painting Class focuses on improvisational art and runs in conjunction with the Talkeetna Jazz Workshop. The first meeting takes place during the jazz workshop dress rehearsal on Thursday July 3rd from 4:30-7:30pm. The second meeting is at the final concert on Saturday July 5th from 6 to 8:30pm. Denali Arts Council hosts a Jazz Concert with Maestro Rocco John Iacovone (“E-ya-ka-vone-ay”) at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Rocco's Jazz Workshop attendees present their final performance with special musical guests, Joel Mosier and Steve Durr. Additionally, led by Denise Iacovone, painters from the Making the Audible Visible workshop will be on stage painting during the performance. Doors open at 6:30pm and the music starts at 7. |
