New Farmers Market for Upper Valley

A new farmers market is coming to the Upper Valley in June. The market will be held on Saturdays starting June 22 in the parking lot of the Upper Susitna Community and Senior Center. 

Center Board Member Lisa Frazer says this is the first year for the market at that location. Her hope is that it will be an asset to the Community and to the Center. The closest market is in downtown Talkeetna, though it is small. She says the other closest markets are in Willow and Denali. It can serve residents near the Y, Trapper Creek, and Caswell Lakes. 

The goals for the market are to focus on locally-grown and locally-made products. She hopes there will be local musicians and artists creating art at the market as well. Food trucks are also welcome.

Booth spaces are $25 per Saturday for a 10 by 10 foot booth space. Tables are available for rent, but there are no canopies available yet. Vendors also must be self-sufficient since there is no electricity or water available at the site. Applications are available at the Center. Frazer says she expects a slow start this year, but hopes for an excellent turnout. 

The market is part of an effort to rebrand the space as more of a community center, rather than a singular focus on seniors. Frazer says they want to provide more activities that interest the whole community. 

The farmers market will start June 22 and will run for 12 weeks through the first weekend in September. Hours are 10am to 4pm.
