  • Seeking artists for fiber art show – Denali Arts Council

    Organizers of the second annual Fiber February are seeking fiber artists to show their work at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar for the month of February.   • Talkeetna Ice Festival – Friday, February 6th

    The Denali Arts Council hosts several events on Friday as part of their annual Talkeetna Ice Festival.  The Talkeetna Art Walk includes the Fiber Art exhibit at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar as well as featured artists at businesses in Talkeetna. Between 3 and 6pm, pick up an art passport and map at the Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe or at the Hangar and get it stamped on your art walk. From 6 to 7pm, there will be fire spinners outside the Hangar. The final event is a candlelight concert in the hangar with award-winning violinist Tim Kliphuis and jazz guitarist Jimmy Grant, performing Django Duets.

  • Talkeetna Ice Festival – Saturday, February 7th

    The Talkeetna Ice Festival continues on Saturday, February 7th. The events include the ice carving competition in the park, races on Main Street and a chili cookoff.  At 7pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar is the Northern Aspects Film Festival, showcasing the best independent ski and ride films of Alaska.   • Ice Carving Workshop

    Denali Arts Council is offering an ice carving workshop with Professional Ice Sculptor, Tommy Salami. on Sunday, February 8th. In the workshop you will carve a 10lb block of ice into a masterpiece that you get to take home. Ice and tools will be provided. This workshop will be held outside at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, so dress warmly. There are 2 sessions to choose between: 11am-1pm and 2-4 pm.   • Complexities of Love Rehearsals – Denali Arts Council

    The variety show, Complexities of Love, is February 13th and 14th and Denali Arts Council is looking for performers. If you have a talent you’d like to share—dance, music, singing, comedy, poetry, puppetry, or anything else—they’d love to hear from you. The final rehearsal and audition is on Sunday, February 8th, from 3 to 5pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. You must audition for Jenny in order to be included in the show.   • LowDown Brass Band – Denali Arts Council

    LowDown Brass Band will be performing at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Thursday, February 19th. Embodying the vibrant Chicago music culture, LowDown Brass Band is a horn ensemble weaving the rhythm of the streets with conscious hip hop, reggae, and soul.   • Stained Glass Workshop – Denali Arts Council

    Denali Arts Council hosts a stained glass workshop on Saturday, February 21st. This 6 hour workshop will be instructed by Debra Whaley, who has been a stained glass artist for 45 years. Participants may choose between 5 different designs. All materials are provided, and participants will take home a completed stained glass project. Participants must be at least 14 years old.   • Rug Hooking Workshop – Denali Arts Council

  • Raising Spirits Festival – Denali Arts Council

    Denali Arts Council presents their annual fundraiser, Raising Spirits, on Saturday, February 28th from 4 to 7pm. This elegant event features artisan-crafted cocktails from five Alaskan distilleries, catered food, aerial performances, and a silent auction. Proceeds raised will support the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar and the Emmila A. Denny Scholarship Fund. Tickets are available at denaliartscouncil.org.

  • Bon Debarras Concert – Denali Arts Council

    The Denali Arts Council presents the musical group Bon Débarras at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Wednesday, March 11th. This Montreal Trio fuses folk music from Quebec, traditional step-dancing, and global influences for a show that is fun and full of energy. Doors open at 6:30pm and the music starts at 7pm.   • The Last King, a film – Denali Arts Council

    The Denali Arts Council is showing the film The Last King at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday, March 13th.  This R-rated movie takes place in 1204 in Norway, where a couple of ski champions try to protect a royal baby. Costumes are encouraged. Doors at 7:30, Film starts at 8pm.

  • Storytellers needed for Arctic Entries

    Denali Arts Council is seeking storytellers for the upcoming Arctic Entries on Saturday, April 4th. The theme is Potholes and Promises, Stories of bumps in the road, where they lead and how you kept going. The stories need to be true, written in the first person and seven minutes long.   • Made for the Stage – Dead Inside Performance – Denali Arts Council

    Denali Arts Council's after school theater program, Made for the Stage, presents Dead Inside: A Zombie Guide to Using Your Brains, featuring three original plays – Your Own Drum, Not That Kind Of Scared, and Zombie/Normie. Performances are at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, March 27th and 28th and at 2pm on Sunday, March 29th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar.     Denali Arts Council hosts the Alaska B4uDie Comedy Festival on Thursday and Friday, April 2nd and 3rd at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Thursday's show is an array of national comedians spanning the country, and the B4uDie Fest Alumni, Hayden Kristal. Friday will showcase a mix of national comedians, and some talented Alaskan comedians. Doors for both nights open at 6:30pm and the jokes start at 7pm.     Denali Arts Council hosts the Soggy Sneaker 5K Run as part of the Banff Film Festival festivities on Saturday, April 11th. The run starts at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar at 12pm, winding through some soggy spring snow along the Chase Trail, and finishing at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge.
