Denali Arts Council hosts a Matinee of the performance, Laughing All the Way to the Brink, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Sunday, December 14th. This theatrical event is part of the Climate Theater Festival and will feature seven short plays by playwrights from around the world. While climate change is very serious, most of these plays are very not. Doors open at 2:30, and the performance is at 3pm. Denali Arts Council hosts a showing of Elf, a family-friendly holiday comedy starring Will Ferrell, about a boy raised by Santa who returns to the land of humans. The movie starts at 6pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Monday, December 22nd. Feel free to wear your Christmas PJs or your best elf suit, you can bring sleeping bags and pillows and get ready to cozy up. Concessions will be open.

Denali Arts Council hosts Ice Carving Workshops, taught by Tommy Salami. An adult and youth workshop on Saturday, January 3rd outside the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Tommy will instruct participants on carving techniques on 10lb blocks of ice. This is a great way to learn how to carve before the Ice Carving Competition. Denali Arts Council presents a screening of the film 76 Days Adrift on Saturday, January 3rd, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. This film documents the experience of Steven Callahan, he recounts the night of February 4th, 1982, when a collision with a whale caused his boat to sink in the Atlantic Ocean. Watercolorist, Miles Bloomfield, is instructing a series of Winter Plein Air Painting classes. Classes are from 1 to 4pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar each Tuesday in the month of January. The next one is on January 6th. This is an outdoor painting class, so participants should dress for the weather. If temperatures are too cold, the class will be held indoors. Denali Arts Council and Green Light Circus present: a Circus Sunday! The first of 5 scheduled monthly workshops between January and May, will be Sunday, January 11th. The day will feature aerial silks workshops followed by open juggling at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Three workshops are scheduled between 10am and 3pm, space is limited in the aerial workshops and pre-registration is recommended. Find more information at denaliartscouncil.org.

Denali Arts Council hosts B Movie Bingo Night on Wednesday, January 14th, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. This event is geared towards adults. Doors open at 6:30, movie begins at 7pm.

Denali Arts Council's Music Academy will again be offering a weekly community choir rehearsal this year at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. The choir will perform at the annual Mother's Day Concert. All voices are welcome. Commitment to rehearsals should be a priority. You may email Sandy, tkb@alaska.net, with any questions. Thursday, January 15th at 5:30pm will be the first rehearsal.

Denali Arts Council is hosting Arctic Entries at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Saturday, January 24th. Seven local storytellers tell true 7-minute stories on the theme of Going Once, Going Twice: Stories of putting yourself on the line, unexpected wins, and near misses. Denali Arts Council hosts the 5th show of their performing arts season; Choir! Choir! Choir! at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, on Thursday, January 29th This is a fully interactive, participatory show that turns the audience into the performers with a a Queen sing-along. All voices are welcome, no experience necessary. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the singing starts at 7pm. Information and tickets can be found at denaliartscouncil.org.

Denali Arts Council hosts the Kick off party for the Talkeetna Ice Festival on Saturday, January 31st in the Talkeetna Village Park from 1pm to 3pm. All are welcome to cheer on the Ice carvers, and warm up with the Talkeetna Elementary PTA soup sale. Afterwards is a winter formal dance, the Snow Ball, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, beginning at 7pm. There will be a costume contest, a hot cocoa bar, music and dancing. The Denali Arts Council hosts several events on Friday as part of their annual Talkeetna Ice Festival.  The Talkeetna Art Walk includes the Fiber Art exhibit at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar as well as featured artists at businesses in Talkeetna. Between 3 and 6pm, pick up an art passport and map at the Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe or at the Hangar and get it stamped on your art walk. From 6 to 7pm, there will be fire spinners outside the Hangar. The final event is a candlelight concert in the hangar with award-winning violinist Tim Kliphuis and jazz guitarist Jimmy Grant, performing Django Duets.

The Talkeetna Ice Festival continues on Saturday, February 7th. The events include the ice carving competition in the park, races on Main Street and a chili cookoff.  At 7pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar is the Northern Aspects Film Festival, showcasing the best independent ski and ride films of Alaska. Denali Arts Council is offering an ice carving workshop with Professional Ice Sculptor, Tommy Salami. on Sunday, February 8th. In the workshop you will carve a 10lb block of ice into a masterpiece that you get to take home. Ice and tools will be provided. This workshop will be held outside at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, so dress warmly. There are 2 sessions to choose between: 11am-1pm and 2-4 pm.
