In this episode host Trisha Costello invites local resident Todd Basilone into the studio to discuss the legacy of service in his family. Todd is the owner of Talkeetna’s Mountain High Pizza Pie and is involved with the Talkeetna Bachelor Society.
During the first half of the show Todd introduces us to his the son of his great uncle, Sgt. John Basilone, who is the only enlisted Marine to have received both the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Sgt. Basilone was further honored by having first one – then another – navy destroyer commissioned in his name. We’ll hear about the heroic and selfless actions for which Sgt. Basilone was so honored during WWII and continues to be honored as a hero within the Marine Corp, during an annual parade in his hometown or Raritan, New Jersey and through the efforts of his namesake Basilone Memorial Foundation.
In the second half of the show discussion is focused on the Talkeetna Bachelor Society and the upcoming Bachelor Weekend. Being involved as an official Bachelor and as a member of the organization’s board, Todd Basilone has continued his family’s legacy of service to make the Society and its annual Bachelor Auction grow and become the single largest fundraising event to impact the wellbeing of Upper Susitna Valley women, children and families.
