Bears Are Mostly Quiet in Susitna Valley, So Far

While bear incidences have been high in Anchorage so far this summer, the Fish and Game office for Mat Su in Palmer hasn’t had any reports of conflicts between bears and humans in the Susitna Valley so far.
Fish and Game policy is to treat bear sightings as a normal occurrence, and only when the bears appear to become habituated to humans would the Mat Su area Fish And Game become involved. Bear behavior that raises concern for fish and game is when Bears start acting boldly around humans, like walking down a fishing stream with a row of anglers are on the bank, or or tipping over trash cans.

A number of public information campaigns remind residents to secure their garbage and and bird feeders to reduce attracting bears.
