This weekend, over a hundred runners competed in the various Bun 2 Bun races in Talkeetna. The Bun 2 Bun marathon, half-marathon, and 5k races are fundraisers for the healthy snack, salad bar, and art teacher programs at Talkeetna Elementary School.

Despite the soggy weather, dozens of runners lined up for the three Bun 2 Bun races, named for the Flying Squirrel Bakery Café and the Talkeetna Roadhouse. 60-year-old Jane Lanford took first place in the marathon with a time of 4 hours, 36 minutes, 47 seconds. In the half-marathon, 30-year-old Daniel Kane took first place with his time of one hour, 31 minutes, 58 seconds. Twelve-year-old Shine Carey was the winner of the 5k run with a finishing time of 25 minutes, 12 seconds. Carey was far from the youngest competitor, and about one-fifth of the 5k’s total runners were in the ’12 and under’ category.
