Tickets available at denaliartscouncil.org | 1 event, The 35th annual Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon begins on Friday, May 2nd, at 6 pm and continues until 6 pm on Saturday, May 3rd. Area residents and their guests are welcome to participate by identifying as many species of birds as can be found in the count circle during the 24 hour period. You can go birding by yourself or with family or friends, traveling “green” or using a vehicle. Participants gather around a fire in the evening on Saturday. The gathering will be on the gravel bar near the corner of Third and B Street, past the Talkeetna Inn. If you have questions, leave a message for Jeff or Deb at 907 733-2066. | 4 events, - Willow CERT and Willow Caswell Fire Department host Wildland Preparedness Public Education Day on Saturday, May 3rd at the Willow Fire Station from 11am until 5pm. There will be a car wash, fire safe presentations, and BBQ food. More information at the Willow CERT Facebook Page. Willow Area Community Organization hosts the annual Willow Community Clean-up from 12 to 5pm on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th. Yellow trash bags may be picked up from Newman's Gas Station, Roni's Deli, and the Willow Community Center Lobby. A dumpster is available in the Community Center parking for collected trash from MatSu Borough Roadways, Right of Ways and Public Lands. They will be at the Talkeetna Public Library from 1 to 4pm. All are welcome to bring a pressure canner dial gauge in for a test to make sure it is accurate and functioning properly. New or unused gauges should be tested before first use. They are showing the PG-rated movie; Earth to Echo. All are welcome. Wasteland Hop will be perform at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Saturday, May 10th. Out of Fort Collins, Colorado, Wasteland Hop plays a soulful and unique blend of folk, rock, and hip-hop. This is an all ages show. Doors open at 6:30pm and the music starts at 7pm. The Willow Public Library 9th Annual 5K Fun Walk & Run is on Saturday, May 24 at 10am, starting in the Library parking lot. Registration forms are available at the Library or you may register starting at 9am on race day. There is a participation fee, and tee shirts are available for participants. Denali Arts Council hosts the 4th annual Talkeetna Art Festival at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar and Talkeetna Historical Society Museum on Saturday and Sunday, May 24th and 25th, beginning at 12pm. They remind area residents to plan ahead by calling 907-376-2273 to request prescription refills, schedule appointments, or take care of any medical needs before the holiday weekend. The Mat Su Libraries are closed on Monday, May 26th in observance of Memorial Day. This includes Willow, Talkeetna, and Trapper Creek. Talkeetna VFW Post 3836 honors its fallen members every Memorial Day. This year the ceremony is on Monday, May 26th at 11AM at the Talkeetna Cemetery. A potluck will be hosted at the Myron “Ace” Ebling VFW Post 3836 at the conclusion of the ceremony.
