Ice Festival Kick Off & Snow Ball Dance – Denali Arts Council
Sheldon Community Arts Hangar +1 moreDenali Arts Council hosts the Kick off party for the Talkeetna Ice Festival on Saturday, January 31st in the Talkeetna Village Park from 1pm to 3pm. All are welcome to cheer on the Ice carvers, and warm up with the Talkeetna Elementary PTA soup sale. Afterwards is a winter formal dance, the Snow Ball, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, beginning at 7pm. There will be a costume contest, a hot cocoa bar, music and dancing. 3rd Annual Rich Crain Classic – Multi Users of Talkeetna Trails
Talkeetna Lakes ParkMUTT (Multi Users of Talkeetna Trails) is hosting the 3rd Annual Rich Crain Classic on January 31st at the Comsat trailhead of Talkeetna Lakes Park, beginning at 11am. Participants can choose to skijor, bikejor, ski, mush, kick sled or run and may use 1 human, 1 dog or 2 dog power to follow a 5 or 15 km marked trail. Learn more and sign-up at talkeetnamutt.org.

Full Moon Ski – Denali Nordic Ski Club
The Denali Nordic Ski Club is hosting a full moon ski on Sunday, February 1st. All are invited to come enjoy the new snow, the full moon, some hot chocolate, possibly some hot dogs. The ski is from 6:00-8:00pm. The ski is from 6:00-8:00pm at the Comstat Trailhead. Choose your trail.

Addition to SVHS home basketball schedule
Su Valley Jr/Sr High SchoolSusitna Valley Jr/Sr High had a last minute addition to their home basketball schedule and will be hosting Tikigaq High School for the first time today, February 3rd. Varsity Girls tip off at 3:30 pm and boys at 5 pm. Games will be streamed on NFHS.

Talkeetna Ice Festival – Friday, February 6th
Sheldon Community Arts HangarThe Denali Arts Council hosts several events on Friday as part of their annual Talkeetna Ice Festival. The Talkeetna Art Walk includes the Fiber Art exhibit at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar as well as featured artists at businesses in Talkeetna. Between 3 and 6pm, pick up an art passport and map at the Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe or at the Hangar and get it stamped on your art walk. From 6 to 7pm, there will be fire spinners outside the Hangar. The final event is a candlelight concert in the hangar with award-winning violinist Tim Kliphuis and jazz guitarist Jimmy Grant, performing Django Duets.

Talkeetna Ice Festival – Saturday, February 7th
The Talkeetna Ice Festival continues on Saturday, February 7th. The events include the ice carving competition in the park, races on Main Street and a chili cookoff. At 7pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar is the Northern Aspects Film Festival, showcasing the best independent ski and ride films of Alaska. Financial Aid Resource Fair – Mat-Su College
Mat-Su CollegeMat-Su College is hosting a Financial Aid Resource Fair at their campus on College Drive in Palmer on Saturday, February 7th, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be help for completing the application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), information on scholarships and advice on funding post-secondary education. Campus tours will also be available. Take Your Child to the Library Day – Talkeetna Public Library
Talkeetna Public Library TalkeetnaThe Friends of the Talkeetna Library host Take Your Child to the Library Day at the Talkeetna Public Library on Saturday, February 7th from 11am until 4pm. Kids can sign up for their own library card, learn how to use the library with a scavenger hunt, create a Valentine's craft, and do a science experiment that yields a sweet treat. Refreshments and snacks will be available. There is also be a book fair at the library through Saturday, a portion of the proceeds go to the Friends of the Talkeetna Library and towards the purchase of new material for the community. Ice Carving Workshop
Sheldon Community Arts HangarDenali Arts Council is offering an ice carving workshop with Professional Ice Sculptor, Tommy Salami. on Sunday, February 8th. In the workshop you will carve a 10lb block of ice into a masterpiece that you get to take home. Ice and tools will be provided. This workshop will be held outside at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, so dress warmly. There are 2 sessions to choose between: 11am-1pm and 2-4 pm. Registration is available on denaliartscouncil.org.

The Denali Nordic Ski Club hosts the annual Poker Ski, a 7.5ish mile ski from the Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe to Denali BrewPub, downtown. This ski begins at 12pm from the Flying Squirrel and is fun for all ages.

VFW Post on Veterens Way in TalkeetnaThe VFW in Talkeetna is hosting a Super Bowl party this Sunday, February 8th. Doors open at 1pm, kick off is at 2:30pm. There will be wings and door prizes; attendees may bring something to add to the Snack Stadium.
