    Denali Drama and the Music Academy presents the musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday and Saturday October 24th, and 25th. Winner of the Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, this hilarious musical follows six contestants in a spelling competition. The doors open at 6:30 and the show begins at 7pm. This performance is rated PG-13. Tickets available at denaliartscouncil.org.

    The Talkeetna Public Library is looking for volunteers. Volunteers are needed for the Reading Mentors programs on Tuesdays at 3:15 to 4:30pm, chefs for the soon-to-start Stone Soup adult cooking group, as well as volunteers to work in the library. This program is for 1st through 3rd graders and is designed to help new readers get experience and confidence in reading out loud.   • Talkeetna Community Council – deadline for a write-in candidate

    The Talkeetna Community Council's annual election takes place on election day, November 4th, at the Talkeetna Public Library. The deadline for a write-in candidate is 5pm today (Tuesday, October 28th). The Talkeetna Community Council represents the community as a means of citizen participation in local and State government issues, as well as providing a platform for various community services and development projects. The candidate is required to live within the Talkeetna Community Council area, more information at talkeetnacouncil.org.

  • Rhythm and Red Shoes Ensemble meeting

The theme this week is Spiders Are Your friends.     Talkeetna Elementary School is hosting the Annual Halloween & Harvest Carnival on Friday, October 31st, from 3:15 to 5:00 PM in the school gym. All are invited to wear costumes and enjoy games and food. Tickets for games and food can be purchased at the event or preordered online at schoolpay.com. All proceeds support the 5th Grade Coastal Ecology Field Trip to Kachemak Bay.

    Do you love Halloween but live in an area where you rarely get trick-or-treaters? You are invited to set up a station at the VFW on the grassy side of the parking lot for Trunk-or-Treat. Typically this involves setting up the back of a vehicle or a pop up tent, decorating it, and handing out treats. You may set up your station between 4 and 4:30pm on Friday, October 31st to prepare. The VFW typically sees the most trick or treaters between 4:30 and 7pm.

    Trunk-or-Treat will be held in the Willow Public Library parking lot on Halloween, October 31st, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Community members are welcome to park your vehicle, decorate your trunk and pass out treats to youth who arrive to trick-or-treat.
