    AARP Tax Assistance appointments

    AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) tax representatives are available to assist local residents on completing their 2024 taxes. They will be at the Houston City Hall from 10am until 4pm every other Wednesday, until April 2nd. Assistance is by appointment only, you can schedule by calling 211 or (800) 478-2221 or visit taxappointment.aarp.org. Available dates are: February 19th, March 5th, March 19th, and April 2nd. Appointments are available on alternative Wednesdays at the Upper Susitna Community and Senior Center.

    Here’s what’s coming up at the Willow Public Library:

    • Willow Library Mentoring Program meets each Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:30pm. This program is open to all Willow Elementary Students. Additional mentors are needed.
    • Story Time followed by free play in the Community Center is on Thursdays at 11am. This is geared toward ages 0-5, but all are welcome.

    Talkeetna Public Library hosts Storytime every Thursday at 11:15am. The theme this week is fuzzy sheep. There will be stories, snacks and a craft. All ages are welcome.     The Susitna Community Council meets on Thursday, March 6th at 6:00 pm at the Upper Susitna Senior & Community Center. Completed grant applications for their Community Assistance Program (CAP) are due by 8pm that day.  Anyone requesting grant funds for a project is invited to attend this meeting to share their grant request with the Board. More information and grant application available at susitnacc.org.

    Susitna Valley High School Girls and boys basketball teams made it to the conference championship games at lumen Christi in Anchorage. Girls play at 6 pm boys at 7:45 pm.

  • Showing of The Last King – Denali Nordic Ski Club

    Sheldon Community Arts Hangar

    Denali Nordic Ski Club presents the film, The Last King, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Friday March 7th. This R-rated film begins at 7:30pm, after Oosik Registration. This film screening is a folk tale set in 1206 Norway, about ski champions who protect a child with a royal following.

    Talkeetna Elementary PTA is hosting a bake sale at the Oosik start line from 10am until 1pm on Saturday, March 8th. In addition to individually wrapped baked goods and healthy trail snacks, they will have water, hot chocolate, and electrolytes.

    Susitna River Coalition is gauging interest for a timber grading workshop with the Department of Natural Resources for the Upper Susitna Valley. Please contact margaret@susitnarivercoalition.org if interested in attending to learn about this free, one day training. If there is enough interest, this workshop could be hosted in the area.
