Volunteers are needed for the Reading Mentors programs on Tuesdays at 3:15 to 4:30pm, chefs for the soon-to-start Stone Soup adult cooking group, as well as volunteers to work in the library.     The Talkeetna Community Council's annual election takes place on election day, November 4th, at the Talkeetna Public Library. The deadline for a write-in candidate is 5pm today (Tuesday, October 28th). The Talkeetna Community Council represents the community as a means of citizen participation in local and State government issues, as well as providing a platform for various community services and development projects. The candidate is required to live within the Talkeetna Community Council area, more information at talkeetnacouncil.org.

    Talkeetna Elementary School is hosting the Annual Halloween & Harvest Carnival on Friday, October 31st, from 3:15 to 5:00 PM in the school gym. All are invited to wear costumes and enjoy games and food. Tickets for games and food can be purchased at the event or preordered online at schoolpay.com. All proceeds support the 5th Grade Coastal Ecology Field Trip to Kachemak Bay.

    Do you love Halloween but live in an area where you rarely get trick-or-treaters? You are invited to set up a station at the VFW on the grassy side of the parking lot for Trunk-or-Treat. Typically this involves setting up the back of a vehicle or a pop up tent, decorating it, and handing out treats. You may set up your station between 4 and 4:30pm on Friday, October 31st to prepare. The VFW typically sees the most trick or treaters between 4:30 and 7pm.
