    Here’s what’s coming up at the Willow Public Library:

    • Willow Library Mentoring Program meets each Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:30pm. This program is open to all Willow Elementary Students. Additional mentors are needed.
    • Story Time followed by free play in the Community Center is on Thursdays at 11am. This is geared toward ages 0-5, but all are welcome.

This week’s Storytime will include cookie decorating and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.  There will also be a holiday craft to bring home and make.     KTNA is seeking volunteers for our new community journalism program. The Upper Susitna Valley is full of stories, and we are seeking community members who want to help us cover them. KTNA will host training sessions on Thursday, December 11th from 6:30-8 pm and Saturday, December 13th from 10:30 am to noon. There will be an option to join via Zoom.     Talkeetna Public Library hosts the next Tween Page to Screen program on Saturday, December 13th. This month will feature the book, The Seeker, by Susan Cooper. Tweens ages 9 to 12 will enjoy snacks, discuss the book and watch the movie. The program is from 5 to 7pm. Next months selection is, Holes, by Luis Sachar and will be handed out after the movie.

  • Laughing All the Way to the Brink matinee performance – Denali Arts Council

    Denali Arts Council hosts a Matinee of the performance, Laughing All the Way to the Brink, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Sunday, December 14th. This theatrical event is part of the Climate Theater Festival and will feature seven short plays by playwrights from around the world. While climate change is very serious, most of these plays are very not. Doors open at 2:30, and the performance is at 3pm. Donations are welcome, proceeds raised will go to the Susitna River Coalition. Learn more at denaliartscouncil.org.

    KTNA is now accepting submissions for the upcoming Album Cover Art Recreation Contest. To participate, choose an album cover and use your imagination and creativity to recreate it. Any art style is accepted - you could dress up and take a picture, draw it, or photoshop it. Submit your recreation to supportKTNA@ktna.org by December 15th. The Album Cover Art Show will hang at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar for the month of January, voting is on January 17th during KTNA's Annual Celebration.     Sheldon Community Arts Hangar

    The nonprofit organization SalmonState is hosting a screening of the film Ocean with David Attenborough on Monday, December 15th at 6:30pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. The film dives into the beauty of our ocean ecosystems and the dangers of bottom trawling. There will be a short program, followed by a film screening, a Q&A session, and door prizes.     Watercolorist, Miles Bloomfield, is instructing a series of Winter Plein Air Painting classes. Classes are from 1 to 4pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar each Tuesday in the month of January. This is an outdoor painting class, so participants should dress for the weather. If temperatures are too cold, the class will be held indoors. All supplies are provided. Sign up is available at denaliartscouncil.org. Drop-ins are welcome if space allows.
