Trailhead Parking and Remote Property Owners parking passes for 2026 are available at the Talkeetna Public Library during open hours, Monday through Saturday 11am to 6pm. You will need to bring your ID for the trailhead pass, and also your insurance paperwork for your vehicles for the Remote Property Owner pass. The library only accepts cash or checks for payment. If you need to pay with a credit or debit card, the librarians can help you online at matsu.gov. Watercolorist, Miles Bloomfield, is instructing a series of Winter Plein Air Painting classes. Classes are from 1 to 4pm at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar each Tuesday in the month of January. This is an outdoor painting class, so participants should dress for the weather. If temperatures are too cold, the class will be held indoors. All supplies are provided. On Wednesday, December 10th from 6-9PM, the Susitna River Coalition is hosting an evening of film and community conversation at the Talkeetna Roadhouse. This year’s feature is Blue Heart, Patagonia’s documentary about the last wild rivers of the Balkans and the grassroots efforts to protect them from large hydropower development. Denali Arts Council hosts a Matinee of the performance, Laughing All the Way to the Brink, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Sunday, December 14th. This theatrical event is part of the Climate Theater Festival and will feature seven short plays by playwrights from around the world. While climate change is very serious, most of these plays are very not. Doors open at 2:30, and the performance is at 3pm. The Denali Nordic Ski Club is hosting the Oosik Classic on Saturday, March 14, 2026. An Oosik Trailmeister is needed to work with Oosik Committee and the Head Trail Groomer to Assemble and supervise a volunteer trail crew to layout the race courses for a 25K and a 50K, design maps, place signage, design and construct the Start/Finish areas, clean up after the race, participate in post-RACE debriefing, and keep track of ongoing expenses. Denali Arts Council hosts Ice Carving Workshops, taught by Tommy Salami. An adult and youth workshop on Saturday, January 3rd outside the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Tommy will instruct participants on carving techniques on 10lb blocks of ice. This is a great way to learn how to carve before the Ice Carving Competition. Supplies will be provided, and you can take your carving home with you. Register online at denaliartscouncil.org.
