Flying Squirrel Bakery & CafeThe Bear Necessities Coalition hosts a bear themed art opening at Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe on Saturday, June 7th from 3 to 5pm. The art will remain on the walls for the month of June. Bear art submissions are currently being accepted, if you would like to submit some art you may email Wendy at wjb@mtaonline.net. Proceeds support the Bear Necessities Coalition.

Denali Rescue Volunteers Event
Sheldon Community Arts HangarThere is a fundraising event for Denali Rescue Volunteers at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Saturday, June 7th at 7pm. Roger Robinson presents Denali South Buttress Climbs, as a tribute to Denali’s volunteer rescue legacy. Talkeetna’s Roger Robinson will recount his 1975 climb of Denali’s remote South Buttress—a journey that launched his 45-year career in the Alaska Range. The talk includes rare photos and audio from the original 1954 ascent and rescue and Denali’s first helicopter evacuation. There will be door prizes and donations are welcome at the door.

Summer Reading Program – Talkeetna Public Library
Talkeetna Public Library TalkeetnaStorytime at the Talkeetna Public Library for ages 0 to 7 this week starts at 11am. The theme is Stories and Nature, and the kids will be walking the Literary Trail. At noon, Lunch on the Lawn for ages 0 to 18 is provided by the Upper Susitna Food Pantry. Weekly food bags will be available as well. Summer Reading Program begins promptly at 1pm. There will be a guided walk at the Talkeetna Lakes Park. The summer reading incentive program is open to all ages, including adult. You can sign up at the front desk.

The next meeting is June 12th. This program is open to adults seeking support in their recovery journey, it provides education, peer support, and therapeutic tools for individuals navigating addiction. The Susitna River Coalition and partners host the 4th Annual Plants for Salmon. All are invited to plant native vegetation to restore salmon habitat on Saturday, June 14, from 10am to 2pm at the Yoder Road bridge on Montana Creek. There will be kids’ activities, fly casting demos, and food. Tools are provided; bring gloves and sturdy shoes if possible. Entries for this year’s Salmon Run Art Auction fundraiser benefiting the Talkeetna Historical Society are due at the Museum by Sunday, June 15.
