    Denali Arts Council hosts Steve Durr's art opening and book signing at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Saturday, May 3rd from 3 to 6pm. At 4pm, Steve will read selected portions from his book; Ptarmigan Song. All are welcome.

  • Talkeetna Elementary School seeking volunteers – Discovery Day Activities

    Talkeetna Elementary School is seeking volunteers for their upcoming Discovery Day activities for students on May 19th, 20th, and 21st. Each activity will run for about two hours and serve a small group of students. They are looking for volunteers to lead or assist with activities like sewing, geocaching, tie-dyeing, and bead making. If you have a different hobby, skill, or passion you’d like to share, they are open to more ideas. Interested volunteers may contact Charity Moore at charity.moore@matsuk12.us.

    Talkeetna Elementary School hosts the Annual Kindergarten Meet and Greet for all prospective students and their parents on Wednesday, May 7th from 10:15 until 11:00am, in the Kindergarten Classroom #135. The Meet and Greet is for students entering Kindergarten for the 2025/2026 school year. Students must be turning 5 years old on or before September 1st, 2025.   • Pressure Canner Gauge Testing

    The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is offering Pressure Canner Gauge Testing today (Thursday, May 8th). They will be at the Talkeetna Public Library from 1 to 4pm. All are welcome to bring a pressure canner dial gauge in for a test to make sure it is accurate and functioning properly. New or unused gauges should be tested before first use.   • Addiction Recovery Group – Sunshine Community Health Center

    Sunshine Community Health Center hosts an Addiction Recovery Group at the Talkeetna Clinic from 1 to 2 PM every second and fourth Thursday of the month, the next one being on May 8th. This program is open to adults seeking support in their recovery journey, it provides education, peer support, and therapeutic tools for individuals navigating addiction. An assessment is required before joining, to schedule you may call (907) 733-9292.

  • Musical Showcase – Su Valley Band Lab

    Local students with the afterschool program, Su Valley Band Lab, will be showcasing their new found skills with support from the band Wasteland Hop at Su Valley Jr./Sr. High School on Friday, May 9th. Doors open at 6:30pm and the showcase starts at 7pm. All are welcome to attend.

    Talkeetna Community Schools hosts Family Movie Night at Talkeetna Elementary School on Friday, May 9th. They are showing the PG-rated movie; Earth to Echo. Doors open at 6:45pm, the movie starts at 7pm.

  • Yard Sale

    There will be a multi-family yard sale on Saturday, May 10th from 10:00AM until 5:00PM at Mile 7.9 of the Talkeetna Spur Road. Look for the inflatable palm tree.

  • Wasteland Hop Concert – Denali Arts Counci

    Wasteland Hop will be perform at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar on Saturday, May 10th. Out of Fort Collins, Colorado, Wasteland Hop plays a soulful and unique blend of folk, rock, and hip-hop.   • Mother’s Day Concert – Denali Arts Council

    Denali Arts Council's Music Academy presents a Mother's Day Concert with the Rhythm and Red Shoe Ensemble, Desperate Measures and the Community Choir on Sunday, May 11th at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Doors open at 3:30pm, and the concert begins at 4pm.

  • Talkeetna Trail Race Sponsorship

    There are sponsorship opportunities available for the 2025 Talkeetna Trail Race. This is a 25k, and 5k race in September which supports Talkeetna Elementary PTA's Healthy Lifestyles and Artist in Residence programs.   • Willow Summer Trails challenge

    The Willow Summer Trails challenge begins May 16, and ends September 26th. Passports with listed Willow community trail descriptions are available at the Willow Library. Participants will document their hike with selfies. A culminating event to award prizes will be held on September 27th. This event is a partnership between the Willow Trails Committee and the Willow Library. Questions may be addressed to the Library staff at 907-861-7655.
