  • Storytime – Talkeetna Public Library

    Talkeetna Public Library Talkeetna

    Talkeetna Public Library hosts Storytime every Thursday at 11:15am. The theme this week is Penguins. There will be stories, snacks and a penguin craft. All ages are welcome. Grab and Go craft kits will be available after 1pm in the foyer for those unable to attend. For more information you can call 907-861-7645, the Talkeetna Library is open 11am to 6pm Monday through Saturday.

  • Talkeetna Library seeking volunteers

    Talkeetna Library is looking for some volunteers for the Summer Reading Program. If you have a special skill or craft that you would like to share with the kids in Talkeetna, please give the library a call at 907-861-7645. Most programs take place on Thursdays between 11am and 2pm, with the age groups of 0-6 and 6 to 15.

    On Friday and Saturday, April 25th and 26th, the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar will once again become the 1950s nightclub, 'The Copa Denali' for the Dudes and Divas' Doo Wop show. There will be balcony seating upstairs and limited tables available downstairs. The doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7pm. Tickets available at www.denaliartscouncil.org.

    Talkeetna Public Library hosts local author Sarah Birdsall on Saturday, April 26th from 4 to 6pm. She will be discussing her newest book, Hill of Dead Horses, a novel set in wilderness of Alaska. This program is aimed at improving strength, balance and flexibility for women over 40 years old. Newcomers are always welcome, weights and instructions are provided. Talkeetna Library is open 11am to 6pm, but the door is opened early for Strong Women.

    The Mat-Su Health Foundation is hosting a discussion group with a focus on community health needs at the Talkeetna Public Library on Tuesday, April 29th from 11:30am until 12:30pm. Discussions will include what opportunities support health and wellbeing, and what services and healthcare access are needed in your community. Pre-registration is not required, but is appreciated.   • Student Scholarship Opportunity – Trapper Creek Community Services Association

    Trapper Creek Community Services Association has a scholarship opportunity for seniors currently enrolled at Susitna Valley High School, or homeschooled and permanently residing in the TCCSA boundaries, who will be attending a post-secondary, technical, or vocational school next year.   • Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon

    The 35th annual Talkeetna-Trapper Creek Birdathon begins on Friday, May 2nd, at 6 pm and continues until 6 pm on Saturday, May 3rd. Area residents and their guests are welcome to participate by identifying as many species of birds as can be found in the count circle during the 24 hour period. You can go birding by yourself or with family or friends, traveling “green” or using a vehicle. Participants gather around a fire in the evening on Saturday. The gathering will be on the gravel bar near the corner of Third and B Street, past the Talkeetna Inn.  If you have questions, leave a message for Jeff or Deb at 907 733-2066.

  • Wildland Preparedness Public Education Day – Willow Caswell Fire Station

    Willow Area Community Organization hosts the annual Willow Community Clean-up from 12 to 5pm on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th. Yellow trash bags may be picked up from Newman's Gas Station, Roni's Deli, and the Willow Community Center Lobby. A dumpster is available in the Community Center parking for collected trash from MatSu Borough Roadways, Right of Ways and Public Lands. More information at waco-ak.org.
